July 1, 2006 3:00-5:30 p.m.
This year's meeting will be held in conjunction with the Ulster-American Heritage Symposium June 28-July 1 sponsored in part by the Ulster-Scots Society of America. The Society will sponsor the Wednesday, June 28 Symposium Welcome Reception from 6:00-8:30 p.m. with drinks, hors d'eouvres, bluegrass music, and a presentation by Big Jim Claiborne of Morristown, Tennessee as "Davy Crockett". At the reception, you will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with scholars from all over the U.S. and Northern Ireland who will be presenting papers on a variety of fascinating topics related to the Ulster-Scots experience. The Society will also have a display in the lobby as well as a booth in the tradeshow area. The symposium concludes Saturday afternoon after which we will have the Ulster-Scots Society of America Annual Meeting from 3:00-5:30 p.m. There will be no cost for attendance at our Society meeting. George Patton, the Chief Executive of the Ulster-Scots Agency in Belfast, Northern Ireland, has been invited to address the Society. Afterwards, we will discuss Society business including future projects, priorities, recruitment, and growth so please bring your ideas for this session. After the meeting, we will go to dinner. For those overnighting on Knoxville, we will discuss an optional trip to the Museum of Appalachia 16 miles north of Knoxville on Sunday. If you have questions, feel free to contact me at ulsterscotgp@yahoo.com or our new Vice President Melinda Shannon Freels at mglfreel@bellsouth.net. Please review your calendar and contact me at ulsterscotgp@yahoo.com or Vice President Melinda Shannon Freels at mglfreel@bellsouth.net with a "Yes," "No", or "Maybe" regarding your attendance at our Society meeting on July 1 so we may plan accordingly. Please make every effort to attend both the symposium and our Society meeting as both will be very worth the trip to Knoxville. You can see the symposium agenda at http://www.east-tennessee-history.org with costs, hotel information, etc. We look forward to seeing you at both our annual meeting and the symposium!
Sincerely,
Glen Pratt
